About

EconSoc are thrilled that BBC journalist, presenter, analysis editor, and creator of the viral 'Ros Atkins on...' explainer videos, Ros Atkins, will join us on 22nd September to discuss his debut book. Sign up for free via Ticket Source in our Linktree! Whether you’re preparing for a presentation, writing a report, taking an exam, interviewing for a job or seeing a doctor, Ros presents the ultimate guide to communicating as effectively as possible by sharing the secrets he has learned from years of working in high-pressure newsrooms. His new book identifies the ten elements of a good explanation and the seven steps you need to take to express yourself as persuasively and accurately as possible. Ros Atkins is BBC News' Analysis Editor and the creator and presenter of Outside Source on the BBC News Channel and BBC World News. Atkins has hosted coverage of many major stories around the world for BBC News, including both of Barack Obama's election victories and his first inauguration, the swine flu outbreak in Mexico, the football World Cups in Germany and South Africa, the London Olympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II celebrations. He was also a lead presenter for the BBC World Service coverage of the death of Nelson Mandela that won a Radio Academy Gold Award in 2014.

About

The University of Edinburgh Economics Society aims to provide Academic, Career, Social and real Research experiences. We are one of the largest student run organisations in Scotland, with over members 800 from 132 different degrees. Broadly, we operate in four main categories: 1. Providing stimulating academic opportunities and insights which are out of the ordinary curriculum or add to that which is already being taught. 2.Educating our members about the career opportunities available to them, and enhancing their employability through collaboration with corporate sponsors and the Careers Service. 3. Delivering a variety of social events for our members and working to develop a community feel within the Society, such as, our annual Ball, our charity casino night and many more. 4. Our new Research initiative allows students interested in applying and developing their analytical skills to engage in real research projects, often with top companies. We achieve this by organising various weekly, annual and one-off events throughout the year, and by offering a wider support network through all of our projects as a whole.
