  • Currently a 2nd year student, ideally studying a Design related course that requires you to complete a 12 month placement. Start date – July 2024.
  • Retail work experience would be advantageous
  • Commercially focused and trend aware
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Self-motivated and committed to developing your skills
  • Knowledge and experience of Adobe Software
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • The Role:
  • This role is perfect for Students who are seeking a 12 month placement (sandwich year), as part of their Fashion, Textile and/or Surface Pattern Design Degree.
  • Each day is different, you’re continuously faced with new and exciting challenges, giving you the opportunity to develop and progress on your placement, and gaining knowledge to help in your future Design career.
  • As a Design Placement Student you will work alongside the Product teams, using CAD software to design and develop comprehensive product ranges, reflective of the current market and Matalan core customer
  • You'll help produce design briefing packs, artworks, prints and packaging, producing surface pattern designs and artwork when requested.
  • You’ll conduct regular benchmarking of competitors, completing regular reviews and seeking missed opportunities and trends which you’ll share with the team and wider business.
  • You’ll also support Designers with particular ranges and product development, help collate colour swatches for key colour palettes and liaise with the buying team on product ranges and design requirements.
