Requirements

  • On a degree course in game design, a relevant subject or have equivalent experience.
  • A self-starter able to understand a goal, research and plan the steps to achieve it.
  • Motivated to learn and push your artistic ability and technical ability.
  • Flexible with new ideas and, most importantly, open to direction and iteration.
  • Willing to help others and ask for help where needed.
  • And, depending which route you prefer:
  • Technical Artist
  • Interested in the tech behind the art and the end-user experience of the software and scripts you will learn to develop.
  • Are passionate about game art.
  • Base knowledge of appropriate industry standard techniques (Modelling, Texturing + Sculpting).
  • UI/UX Artist
  • Create 2D assets alongside a wider team while working towards the studios artistic vision.
  • Where necessary, work in engine to help construct UI systems.
  • Work closely with other art departments to help create in-game assets.
  • Environment Artist
  • A passion for creating environments & dressing them.
  • Base knowledge of appropriate industry standard techniques (Modelling, Texturing + Sculpting).
  • And you:
  • Desire to communicate and work with artists, coders, testers, game and audio designers in a dynamic team environment.
  • Are inquisitive and enjoy problem solving, has an interest in wanting to understand how things work.
  • Love games and want to start a career making them.
  • Technical Artist
  • Understand the fundamentals involved of how assets go from content creation tools (such as Maya or Photoshop) into game.
  • Have a knowledge of fundamental scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, MEL)
  • UI/UX Artist
  • A passion for 2D art and the end user experience.
  • Base knowledge of appropriate industry standard techniques (Illustration - Bitmap & Vector, Graphic Design, Animation).
  • Environment Artist
  • Have a knowledge of essential art theories (Composition, Colour, Value etc)
  • Have a knowledge of fundamental industry standard software (Photoshop, Maya, Z-brush, Substance 3D Painter).
  • Have some experience using an engine like Unreal or Unity, this would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • If you want to be a Technical Artist…
  • Discover how to work with creative departments including Art, Animation and Audio to ensure production pipelines are efficient and user friendly.
  • Learn how to develop scripts for 3rd party software (such as Maya or Photoshop) as well as the game engine.
  • Participate in our development processes.
  • Gain an insight on how large-scale production pipelines work, along with seeing how data is structured and managed across multiple departments.
  • If you want to be a UI/UX Artist…
  • Create 2D assets alongside a wider team while working towards the studios artistic vision.
  • Where necessary, work in engine to help construct UI systems.
  • Work closely with other art departments to help create in-game assets.
  • If you want to be an Environment Artist…
  • Create in-game environments & 3D assets alongside a wider team while working towards the studios artistic vision.
  • Create and apply 2D textures and learn about texture mapping.
  • Explore environmental lighting and how to apply good lighting principles.
  • Create materials/shaders – exploring diff/spec/norm map setups.
  • You will work closely with other departments to develop the look of the levels you work on.
  • For all roles, you will:
  • Participate in our development processes.
  • Provide critical feedback from your perspective on the game in development.
  • Make our games fun.
