Requirements

  • Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.
  • Preferred Areas of Study:
  • Enrolled in an accredited certificate, 2-year or 4-year program during their internship.
  • Enrolled in an academic program in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Policy, or related field.
  • You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong communication skills- reading, writing, editing and verbal communication
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Curiosity and self-direction, able to independently manage progress toward a goal with some coaching
  • Basic understanding of public utilities and city government services
  • Basic understanding of customer service needs and approach within the framework of government offerings
  • Are a senior or graduate student at the start of the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the Classification & Compensation email; respond to questions from managers, employees, and department HR staff; triage requests and work to address issues and respond promptly to requests and inquiries.
  • Run and distribute reports; utilize Excel to compile data from multiple reports to summarize and analyze information and perform data quality audits.
  • Perform analysis on effectiveness, market competitiveness, and internal equity of compensation programs.
  • Participate in compensation surveys across markets.
  • Assist in researching, compiling, and summarizing data.
  • Intern duties will consist of a range of activities that include position classification and reclassification.
  • Duties performed in relation to these activities include research and data gathering, analyzing issues, preparing a variety of written materials including case analysis, correspondence, and classification standards.
