Requirements

A current 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year undergraduate Edinburgh University Student.
Familiarity with DICE.
Familiarity with computing hardware.
Knowledge of either Windows, Mac or Linux
Desirable:
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Knowledge of safety work issues associated with the working environment.

Responsibilities

Remove approx. 40 desktops which are due for replacement, including unlocking, removing peripherals and storing accessories safely. (20%)
Replace removed desktops with new ones, attaching monitor and peripherals and securely cabling and locking them. (20%)
Install DICE operating system on the new desktops. (10%)
Checking all 300+ lab machines are online and up-to-date (10%)
Carry out a data deletion of computing desktops that are to be sent for recycling. (5%)
Organise desktops for collection by recycling company. (5%)
General overhaul of monitors, keyboards and mice in the student labs including ensuring screens and keyboards are cleaned. (15%)
Assisting with any staff office moves, by disconnecting computing equipment, moving to new location then reconnecting. (10%) 2
Day to day tasks as dictated by the line manager and the User Support Unit, including helping users with simple technical queries. (5%)
