Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Environmental Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program.
  • Demonstrated interest in Environmental Engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator, pass a Fit for Duty Exam/Medical Exam.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Environmental Engineering, or related, master's degree or PhD program.
  • General hands-on mechanical and electrical experience preferred.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
  • HAZWOPER 40-HOUR Training, preferred. WSP USA will provide HAZWOPER 40-HOUR Training at no cost to qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • This internship will be primarily to support on-going remediation efforts at a project site in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
  • This internship will provide an excellent opportunity for an environmental engineering student to gain invaluable introductory knowledge and skills for site assessment and implementation/maintenance of remedial systems.
  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn and apply basic principles of Environmental Engineering with a focus on groundwater extraction and treatment.
  • Support with project research, field work, site operation and maintenance activities, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Flexible to work outside normal business hours as required; may include weekend and nighttime work
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
