Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Candidates who have earned a degree may work for a period not to exceed 12 months. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering, software engineering, or similar.
  • Strong writing, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Experience with programming for engineering analysis or optimization.
  • Proficiency with Python or similar programming language.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with floating offshore system simulation using a tool such as OpenFAST, OrcaFlex, WEC-Sim, ProteusDS, MoorDyn, or similar.
  • Experience with optimization.
  • Experience with GUI development for Python software.
  • Experience with GIS software.

Responsibilities

  • Run floating offshore energy system simulations in RAFT, a frequency domain modeler, and OpenFAST, a time domain simulator.
  • Contribute to the software development of the modeling tools.
  • Contribute to the optimization of a floating tidal turbine platform design with different types of mooring systems.
  • Use and improve existing quasi-static mooring models and optimization software methods to optimize floating support structure designs.
  • Assist with deep water mooring system designs and modeling for large-scale floating wind projects.
