The candidate must be a college or university student majoring in Engineering or a related field, or a recent graduate. They should have basic computer skills and knowledge of spreadsheets, as well as the ability to follow directions and work with basic tools. Attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently or with coworkers are important. A current Colorado driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required, along with passing a background check and pre-employment tests and appointments.

The Hydraulics Engineering Intern at Denver Water will assist with installing and monitoring equipment on the Treated Water System, collecting and evaluating data, and presenting findings for evaluation.

Each year, three major measurement programs and various special studies are conducted. The pressure gauge program measures system pressure at several hundred locations in the service area and is used to detect areas where pressure falls outside acceptable operating parameters. Data is also used in system design and modeling. Flow tests and zone studies are used to evaluate and improve the operation of the distribution system. C-value tests (Hazen-Williams equation) are conducted to identify mains when reduced carrying capacity that may need to be replaced.
