Requirements

  • Ongoing enrollment in a management information systems, computer science, data science, or related program such as engineering with an emphasis on technology
  • Junior or senior standing with a minimum of one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after the internship
  • Experience coding in Python and other programming languages
  • Familiarity with key concepts around machine learning
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and desire to learn
  • Strong team mentality with a willingness to assist where needed to contribute to the group’s success
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, time management, and follow through
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
  • Preferred qualifications:
  • Strong capabilities in Python and the libraries Pandas, Sklearn, and SciPy
  • Experience with creating training datasets for machine learning
  • Experience with environmental data

Responsibilities

  • Using tools such as Python, Power BI, and Excel to automate data transformation and visualization processes
  • Participating in Barr’s Data Resource Group and supporting technology for a wide variety of engineering and scientific project work
  • Working with artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives, such as working with teams to fine-tune large language model applications
  • Collaborating with various teams to collect requirements and user stories to build digital tools and processes
  • Participating in process improvements and special projects as assigned
  • Shadowing various aspects of business and IS operations
