Requirements

  • Candidate should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate-level degree program.
  • Candidate should embody a personal and professional commitment to equity-centered, rights-based, intersectional, anti-racist, and feminist approaches.
  • Ideal candidate will have academic or work experience in equity, gender equality and social inclusion (GESI), disability inclusion, LGBTQ+ inclusion or a related field.
  • Professional working proficiency in a language other than English is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Has completed at least two years of college coursework.
  • Has excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Is available to work full-time throughout the 10-week internship.
  • Is eligible to work in the United States
  • Transitioning military are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • All interns must participate in programming, seminars, and meetings scheduled throughout their Abternship.
  • The CGEO intern will support the CGEO across a range of workstreams, including helping with the management and coordination of CGEO activities both global and US Domestic, conducting research and analysis, and contributing to external and internal communications efforts. Specific assignments will be determined based on the team’s priorities during the summer of 2024, as well as the intern’s background and interests. Further details and examples are provided below, in no particular order.
  • Research and analysis:
  • Support market analysis about client priorities and needs in the US domestic and/or global development markets, such as conducting desk research, analyzing and presenting data and intelligence, and attending industry events.
  • Research and summarize new equity-related client policies to inform Abt staff working on business development and program implementation.
  • Provide research support for equity-related thought leadership pieces (e.g., white papers, blog pieces)
  • Identify, summarize, and disseminate relevant equity-related resources among staff (e.g., annotated resource lists)
  • Support research and analysis on key CGEO organizational indicators
  • External and internal communications:
  • Contribute to the development of short written pieces for external publication, in collaboration with staff leading equity-centered activities in Abt’s portfolio of US domestic and global development projects.
  • Contribute to internal communications efforts among Abt’s staff, such as drafting written pieces for internal staff newsletters.
  • Management support and coordination:
  • Assist with coordination and planning for CGEO meetings, including scheduling and set up
  • Support the US domestic and global development equity strategy and practices by, for example, supporting virtual meetings and events (e.g., planning, using digital platforms, meeting reports), identifying accessible background reading materials for interested staff, and supporting internal marketing.
  • Take on other responsibilities that directly support Abt’s work to advance equity across all aspects of project implementation, as needed.
