Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in a related subject (e.g., Climate Science, Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or similar).
  • Sound mathematical and statistical foundations.
  • Strong ability in programming languages used in model development (e.g., R, Python, Julia).
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Good skills in a Linux/Unix environment and experience of a version control system such as GitHub.
  • Ability to communicate analysis results and insights effectively.
  • Driven and committed, demonstrating self-motivation as well as strong team working skills.

Responsibilities

  • This role will perform research and development work to understand various effects of extreme climate phenomena, including tropical cyclones, severe and winter weather, chronic and acute climate change, and so on.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with experienced catastrophe modelers to prototype and advance the building of mathematical models of climate extremes and their impacts.
