Requirements

  • A qualification in sustainability, climate change, physical geography, or other relevant field;
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to synthesise complex technical documents into decision-useful summaries;
  • Appreciation of some of the key regulatory and reporting frameworks for assessing and disclosing climate-related risks and opportunities;
  • Familiarity with, or interest in, assessing physical climate risk, vulnerability and adaptation, preferably within the context of climate-related impacts to companies;
  • Knowledge of physical climate scenarios and variables (e.g., IPPC, CMIP5 and CMIP6) such as key trends in precipitation and temperatures under different climate futures, as well as an understanding of the functions and outputs of climate models;
  • Strong communication skills, particularly relating to packaging complex outputs into a digestible format and supporting senior colleagues with communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience through workshops and presentations;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, such as the ability work collaboratively in a team and/or with other business functions; and
  • Demonstrable skills in time management, proactivity, and ability to source own work.

Responsibilities

  • As an intern within the Climate Risk and Opportunity Advisory Team, with a focus on physical climate risk and adaptation, you will spend half of your time on helping to enhance ERM’s service offering on this space, and the other half on supporting our team on client deliverables. This will include:
  • Tasks relating to enhancing ERM’s service offering on physical climate risk and adaptation:
  • Conducting research to prepare a decision-useful report containing:
  • The key details of the current and upcoming climate risk and opportunity reporting and disclosure requirements, with a focus on physical climate risk and adaptation;
  • A market review of companies’ current maturity with regards to assessing and disclosing physical climate risks, as well as implementing adaptation solutions to mitigate such risks, alongside a summary of best, good and poor practice in these areas;
  • A summary of key opportunities and actions required to improve ERM’s service offering on physical climate change and adaptation;
  • Working with members of the physical risk team to build out ERM’s existing longlist of sector- and hazard-specific climate change adaptation options and interventions; and
  • Developing a set of templates for identifying and assessing the feasibility of climate change adaptation interventions, as well as preparing detailed adaptation plans that can be adapted to ERM’s clients.
  • Tasks relating to supporting our team on client deliverables:
  • Working within project teams to analyse physical climate data from multiple sources (including the IPCC) using ERM’s proprietary digital platform, as well as assess and quantify risk and impact across geographies;
  • Supporting the preparation of reports, workshop materials, presentations, and technical summaries – with a focus on physical climate risk and climate change adaptation; and
  • Supporting senior colleagues development of proposals, with a focus on physical climate change and adaptation.
