Requirements

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Junior or above.
  • Recent graduates will not be eligible for this program.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required.
  • An official transcript may be required upon request.
  • Preferred majors include: Architecture, Interior Design, Set Design, Themed Entertainment.
  • Preferred coursework completed: Themed Entertainment, Architecture, Interior Design, Set design, Illustration, Digital Design, Game Design.
  • Required skillset in Drafting, 3D modeling, Rendering, Sketching, Illustration.
  • Required software proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Adobe Suite.
  • Preferred knowledge of Sketchup, 3ds Max, Maya, Unreal, Lumion, TwinMotion software.
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and organization.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and/or in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in articulating creative intent and technical feasibility studies during the early phases of development through renders, drawings, artwork, models, animatics, etc. that communicate the design of the various show elements of an attraction or experience (e.g., scenery/sets, architecture, ride systems, special effects, etc.).
  • Learns the essentials of listening to a partner to achieve a successful guest experience that is balanced with business needs.
  • Draws plans/elevations.
  • Explores rendered model views.
  • Coordinates various 3D file formats.
  • Cleans up 3D models and sketches.
  • Compiles reference models and reviews project scope and annotating sheets.
  • Interfaces with multiple project partners, departments, and personnel; and contribute in work sessions, team meetings, and leadership reviews.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Mission & Purpose

Universal Creative is the research and development group responsible for designing rides and attractions for Universal Parks & Resorts theme parks. It is Universal's equivalent of Walt Disney Imagineering. From 1968 until 1997, Universal Creative was known as MCA Planning and Development. In 1997, when Universal parent MCA was sold to Seagram and dropped the MCA name, the company was renamed Universal Creative.
