Requirements

  • Strong desire to grow in corporate cybersecurity position
  • Basic to advanced computer skills required, i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and advanced Excel (pivot tables, graphs etc)
  • Ability to utilize MS Teams for regular daily work discussions, whiteboarding and webcam sessions every day with the team
  • Excellent phone and face to face verbal communication skills
  • Desire for constant growth, research, study and learning in the ever-changing cybersecurity landscape
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge in specialized industry standard security tool suites
  • Current study in a cybersecurity related activity preferred
  • Currently actively a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science or MIS at 4-year accredited university
  • Must have lodging in the DFW area for the duration of the internship (June 3rd – August 9th)
  • Scope Data:
  • Works under general to close supervision with regular review by cybersecurity manager and team
  • Ability to work onsite one day a week (currently Tuesdays) and virtually in high capacity with flexibility for working evenings and weekends if security incidents occur
  • Works effectively with extremely high confidentiality discussion topic requirements
  • Takes ownership of both team and personally assigned tasks and deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Learning and utilizing the core CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) requirements used in the cybersecurity industry which are: Security and Risk Management, Asset Security, Security Engineering, Communications and Network Security, Identity and Access Management, Security Assessment and Testing, security operations, and Software Development Security and/or CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker)
  • Learn and grow your security analysis skills utilizing industry standard cybersecurity tools
  • Assist the cybersecurity team in outlining strategic plans and goals throughout the year
  • Assist team members in analysis of risks within the IT Risk Management program and incident analysis, working with them to track, report and remediate risks
  • Complete basic ServiceNow security tickets and basic alert closing in Microsoft Defender, Varonis, Netskope, and other tools
  • Participate in quarterly internal phishing campaigns and enterprise-wide security awareness program
  • Work with cybersecurity team members to become highly skilled in one or more industry standard cybersecurity tools used at Interstate
  • Develop and maintain various cybersecurity reporting metrics for analysis and presentation
  • Learn the basics of Payment Card Industry (PCI) security spec 4.0 and work with team members to update security policies and processes this year to pass our January 2024 external PCI assessment
  • Engage with cybersecurity team in key external cybersecurity industry events and begin to grow relationships in the DFW cybersecurity community
  • Learn and practice basic corporate skills throughweekly status reporting, team meetings, etc.
  • Learn and grow in basic SAP Infrastructure security and SAP Governance, Risk and Compliance areasLearn how to integrate and align cybersecurity best practices into our mission-driven company fueled by our Purpose (to glorify God) and values of Love, Servant’s Heart, Excellence, Courage, Community, Joy, and Integrity
  • Learn from cybersecurity leadership about the “Wow Factor” technique to take Excel and PowerPoint presentations to the next level that are presented in leadership level meetings
