Requirements

  • A current 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year undergraduate University of Edinburgh student
  • SQA Higher (or equivalent) in Mathematics or, in case the applicant has not studied in the UK, familiarity with the mathematical concepts which are part of the Mathematics Higher curriculum
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to work towards deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Desirable:
  • Familiarity with first- and second-year university mathematics and realworld applications of mathematical concepts
  • Some experience with outreach in mathematics or another relevant STEM subject
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Design a space-efficient storage system for existing physical outreach resources, which both accommodates our current main offerings and is robust enough to allow for future expansion (40%)
  • Research best practice for mathematical outreach, including liaison with local schools and educators (10%)
  • Design of a series of mathematical classroom workshops, each on a specific topic and targeting a specific age range (20%)
  • Develop new resources to be used in the above series of classroom workshops (30%)
