Requirements

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidates will be enrolled in or have recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a related major.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with production lines and or product development.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management software/tools.
  • Understanding of GD&T drawing practices.
  • Competency with SolidWorks Software. Using student versions of Solidworks software, candidates should expect to be tested by creating part and assemblies and drawings, based on Lumentum provided part 2d drawings. Such 2d test drawings to be provided to candidates that pass initial screening.
  • Understanding engineering design and drawing principles.
  • Ability to communicate well, take initiative, work well in a team setting.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a lab setting using basic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to write and present reports to a group.
  • Reading, writing, and speaking English at an expert level.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis tools and simulations such as Ansys or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Intern lives within commuting distance to San Jose, California for the duration of the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Primary project will cover the definition and documentation of engineering standards and practices that will span the length of the internship. Supervised component and mechanism design using production cad tools and process. Upon completion, the opportunity to present findings to senior management will be provided.
  • Learning, comprehension, and application of manufacturing and quality standards.
  • Release of documentation into revision tracking system.
  • Working closely with manager(s), mentor(s) and senior mechanical engineers to complete assigned tasks.
  • Designing, purchasing, assembly, testing, and validation of opto-mechanical parts, subsystems, and tooling.
