Responsibilities

  • The Museum Store Product Development Intern will focus on helping to grow our exclusive custom print program from the permanent collection at SFMOMA as well as branded products and exclusive artist product collaborations. The Museum Store Custom Print Program allows customers to purchase prints from the SFMOMA collection in a variety of sizes and frame options in just three easy steps. It is one of the largest revenue streams in the Museum Store and has the potential to increase exponentially with more variety and offerings. The Museum Store Product Development Intern will help to grow this offering. They will also work on SFMOMA branded products and artist collaborations.
  • PROJECT PLAN:
  • The Museum Store Product Development Intern will help to identify works from the SFMOMA Collection from it’s digital archive with the end goal of adding 20 new works to the Custom Print Program at SFMOMA. They will also help lay out new SFMOMA branded products and apparel to be included in our branded and artist collaboration exclusive merchandise.
  • The project will start with working with the Product Developer to help identify and narrow down works that could be added and track these works in/with Asana. This involves also working in collaboration with our Collections Information and Access team (CIA) at SFMOMA and also with the team at our vendor resource for the prints. The intern will help to download and track the digital files to be sent to our color correction specialist at the print vendor. Then work to color match the prints so they are as close to the original artwork as possible. Tracking progress in Asana for each work with the end goal of approval for both color and rights. The intern will help to schedule and look at works in person when available to achieve the closest color correct reproduction of prints possible.
  • While the prints are being color corrected and processed, the Museum Store intern will also help with the design and production of new branded and artist collaboration merchandise when possible.

Mission & Purpose

Art transforms lives. It provokes us to think, to express, to explore our own creativity, to envision new possibilities. SFMOMA expanded the museum to provide a better experience for our visitors and a better home for our expanding collections, including the SFMOMA collection and the Fisher Collection, one of the finest collections of contemporary art in the world. The new SFMOMA, designed in collaboration with the architecture firm Snøhetta, opened May 2016. With this project, we are transforming not just the museum's physical presence, but also our contributions to the community, enhancing SFMOMA's role as a place for learning, inspiration, and interaction for visitors from the Bay Area and beyond. We are making SFMOMA a magnet for contemporary art and for the audiences who will engage with it.
