Requirements

  • A current 2 nd, 3rd or penultimate year undergraduate University of Edinburgh student
  • A demonstrable interest in EDI issues
  • Experience of researching and organising information
  • Ability to communicate well with colleagues, both academics and professional services staff, in a constructive and professional way, including presenting information in written form
  • Experience of team work

Responsibilities

  • The intern will work on a selection of the following activities, based on their interest, experience and the needs at the time:
  • Develop newsletter-style contributions for the School on recent EDI related research (using internet and library resources, watching presentations, identifying and interviewing experts from outside physics & astronomy) ~20%
  • Refresh physical and video screens displays in the Institute for Astronomy and JCMB ~20%
  • Design informational posters for both staff and students outlining available resources on campus ~20%
  • Surveying staff and students and developing recommendations for the School to improve EDI issues~20%
  • Investigating student attainment in the School with regards to the University's Widening Participation agenda ~20%
  • Implementing / writing the final deliverable (e.g. webpage or written document) ~10%
  • Writing a final report and presentation ~10%
  • Interns will work either with members of the Institute for Astronomy at the ROE or with School of Physics & Astronomy staff based at JCMB.
