Requirements

  • A current 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year University of Edinburgh undergraduate student
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work on your own initiative and function as part of a team
  • Excellent time management skills, and experience in planning and managing projects
  • Good knowledge of social media, in particular Discord, Instagram, and Facebook
  • Creativity and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with incoming students (both UG and taught MSc) by delivering communications via the School’s offer holder social media channels and email marketing. Be a first point of contact for incoming students, generate engaging conversation, and offer support by replying to questions about student experience, courses, and university life (20%)
  • Conduct research and interviews (with current staff and students) to identify engaging, relevant and inspiring physics and astronomy stories, and fun facts. Use this content to create blog articles and a calendar of social media posts to be used to promote our degree programmes. Take photos and create graphics and short videos to enhance the written content (35%).
  • Participate in the planning and preparation of the School of Physics and Astronomy Welcome Week, and contribute ideas towards the development of School specific induction events for incoming students (20%).
  • Monitor engagement on the School’s offer holder channels. Develop final documentation and analysis to inform future content and provide recommendations on how communications could be improved. (10%)
  • Research the online content of competitors as well as social media trends and areas of good practice, identifying ideas and sharing these with the team. (10%)
  • Other relevant duties that may be assigned by the line manager or members of the School recruitment team (5%)
