Requirements

  • Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.
  • Preferred Areas of Study:
  • Enrolled in an accredited certificate, 2-year or 4-year program during their internship.
  • Enrolled in an academic program in Occupational Safety, Health Sciences, or related field.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze and address specific safety needs.
  • Enthusiastic about making a tangible impact on workplace safety.
  • Are a sophomore, junior, or senior at the start of the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Learning Objectives Include:
  • Gain hands-on experience in developing safety resources, trainings, and programs.
  • Gain personal experience doing field work, collecting feedback, and building professional relationships.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the organization.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of employee well-being and organizational learning around safety.
  • Opportunity for skill development and mentorship within the Safety Health and Wellness Division.
  • Here is more about what you'll be doing:
  • This Internship will be focused on completing three separate projects, with the opportunity to propose and work on additional or differing projects that align with your career aspirations within the safety and health domain.
  • Project 1. Fall Protection Plan Template:
  • Develop a comprehensive template for Fall Protection Plans tailored to the specific needs of Seattle City Light's diverse work environments.
  • Collaborate with the Field Safety Team to understand the intricacies of various job sites and incorporate practical insights into the template.
  • Project 2. Silica Control Plans for Civil Construction:
  • Create Silica Control Plans specifically designed for the Civil Construction team, addressing the unique challenges and hazards associated with their work.
  • Engage with the Civil Construction team to gather insights and ensure the plans align with their operational requirements
  • Project 3. Safety Committee Member Training:
  • Design a training program for new Safety Committee members, focusing on empowering them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively contribute to organizational learning and safety improvements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand the expectations and challenges faced by Safety Committee members in their roles.
