  • Must be a current Junior, Senior, or Grad Student pursuing a degree in Safety Management, Engineering Management, Risk Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Emergency Preparedness/Management, Business Management, Public Administration, Homeland Security, Fire Science, Public Health, Urban or Metropolitan Planning, Industrial or Occupational Health, Security, Criminal Justice, or a related field
  • Grads who have completed their degrees in the past 12-month period will also be considered.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of relevant project plans, policies, procedures, databases, or other documentation.
  • Conduct routine assessments in the TriMet system or at TriMet garages and buildings that help inform projects.
  • May represent safety or security in particular project work with all divisions and departments in the organization.
  • Support the agency-wide Safety Management System and Agency Safety Plan.
  • Learn department technology tools, to potentially include video surveillance, access management, and online or internal databases.
  • Assist in capturing data and review reports of security or safety issues.
  • Assist in video review of security incidents as needed.
  • Assist in security or safety centric initiatives such as incident root cause analysis and mitigation planning.
  • Apply knowledge of best practices within specific focus of safety or security.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret safety or security data or video.
  • Under supervision, apply relevant laws, rules, and policies.
  • In this role, you will work closely with our team of safety and security professionals and gain hands-on experience in a variety of safety-related projects and initiatives. Your responsibilities may include:
  • Gaining proficiency in collecting and cleaning datasets for TriMet’s heatmap project.
  • Analyzing safety data and assisting with the development of safety performance metrics.
  • Learning the Safety and Security department’s technology tools, including video surveillance, access management, and online or internal databases.
  • Conducting research on best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Creation of curriculum for the internal training of use of TriMet’s surveillance system.
