What is the role of the Security Operations Intern at Workiva?
The Security Operations Intern will be an integral part of the Information Security team, gaining real-world experience in the Security Operations Center (SOC) by helping to resolve security issues, develop defensive capabilities, and maintain Workiva’s security posture.
When does the internship start and what is the expected work schedule?
The internship is expected to start in the Fall semester, specifically on September 16, 2024, and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week.
What types of tasks will the intern be responsible for?
The intern will be responsible for documenting, investigating, and reporting on information security issues; providing incident response support; managing and configuring tools to enhance security monitoring; developing alerts and reports; responding to security alerts; and collaborating with other teams on security-related issues.
What are the minimum qualifications required for this internship?
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program, preferably in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a similar degree program with a security focus.
What preferred qualifications would make a candidate stand out?
Preferred qualifications include strong ethical skills, excellent communication and social networking abilities, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, self-motivation to research, working knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems, basic competency in programming languages (such as Python, Java, SQL, Go, or Dart), and familiarity with Splunk (SPL) query language and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Are there any travel requirements for the intern?
Yes, reliable internet access is required for any period of time working remotely, as the intern may not always be in a Workiva office.
How will the intern be compensated?
The salary range for the internship is $40.00 per hour. Additional benefits include 401(k) participation, paid sick leave, and opportunities for further learning through additional internship seasons.
