Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student in a sandwich year course returning to study in Autumn 2025
  • The ideal candidate will currently be undertaking a degree that involves business management. However, this is not essential and any students who are on track to receive a 2:1 or higher degree with relevant skills are welcome
  • Candidates must also demonstrate the following skills:
  • Communication Skills:
  • An excellent level of both written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present information appropriately to a wide variety of clients in a clear, concise and non-technical manner. Written communications will need to be well prepared and logically structured.
  • Planning and Organisational skills:
  • Plans and organises their own work, has the ability to liaise with dependent areas to ensure collaborative working, can adapt their actions to changing priorities.
  • Time Management:
  • Prioritises tasks and keeps to deadlines. Has a flexible and self-motivated approach to work, being able to work unsupervised if required.
  • Problem Solving Skills:
  • Can identify and solve problems in a logical manner using an evidenced based approach. Has the ability to translate theory into practice to provide pragmatic solutions.
  • Technical Skills:
  • IT skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and an aptitude and willingness to learn new software packages. Good numerical and statistical analysis skills and being able to make sense of and interpret qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Team Working:
  • Can work with a diverse group of colleagues, suppliers and contractors at all levels. Being an active team player and show willingness to help support others.
  • Personal Responsibility:
  • Has a proactive approach, takes ownership of their actions and responsibilities, and has the confidence to take initiative and develop ideas further.
  • Professionalism:
  • Support an inclusive culture and environment, showing consideration and respect for others. Integrity and professional behaviour in line with MET standards

Responsibilities

  • As a member of Fleet Services, you will be given the opportunity to take part in a variety of exciting projects and activities with a large scope for impact on both our Fleet and the wider MPS. As a Placement Student you will be given the autonomy to focus on those activities which suit your interests and will provide you with the specific and transferrable skills relevant to your future job prospects. Such opportunities include, but are not limited to:
  • Major projects – Assist us with the specification and managing of multi million pound vehicle replacement projects, working closely with the fleet team to provide project support.
  • Net Zero Carbon strategy – Support the delivery of the Net Zero Carbon strategy and working to assist with developing the next generation of vehicles to support environmental innovation in our Fleet.
  • Customer engagement – Support with managing the end-to-end fleet customer experience in a timely and effective manner for officers and staff across a diverse range of business groups. Building relationships with key enablers and internal Fleet staff.
  • Business improvement – Helping us to drive business performance through reporting and engagement. Take an active role in assisting the constant evolution of our Business Practice in the face of changing demands of the MPS.
  • Audit and compliance – Analyse fleet report data using Fleet software and Excel databases. Application of lean methodology and continuous improvement.
  • National collaboration with other stakeholders around the country to develop collaboration strategies.
