Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited university.
  • Completed at least 45 credit hours.
  • Minimum of 2.8 GPA.
  • Requisition Preferences:
  • Pursing a BS/MS/PhD degree in materials science, geotechnical engineering, geoscience or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience working in a geotechnical lab.
  • Experience working with a Digital Pneumatic Direct Shear Machine.
  • Knowledge of ASTM standards.

Responsibilities

  • The Exploration Science team seeks a geotechnical engineer intern to work within the Simulant Development Lab (SDL) at NASA Johnson Space
  • Center in Houston, TX. The SDL primarily works with simulant planetary regolith materials.
  • The intern would spend most of their time working with and analyzing granular materials.
  • Prep samples via sieving, as needed.
  • Analyze samples with a Microtrac SYNC Wet/Dry Multi Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer.
  • Use of a Digital Pneumatic Direct Shear Machine.
  • Analyze samples with Magneti c Susceptibility instrumentation.
  • Perform other duties as required.
