The ideal candidate for the Summer 2024 Scrap Tire Outreach College Intern position at the Ohio Department of Transportation must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college degree program in Environmental Science, Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Chemical), or Geology. They should have knowledge of safety practices, public relations, agency policies and procedures, and permits, as well as the ability to lift 50 pounds. Proficiency in computers, including spreadsheets, word processing, database work, and geographic information systems, is necessary. A valid driver's license is required, and the candidate must have a customer-focused mindset.

The Summer 2024 Scrap Tire Outreach College Intern at the Ohio Department of Transportation will receive training on scrap tire management, visit businesses to deliver educational information, prepare reports, update files, and assist with administrative reports.

<ul><li>As an Ohio EPA Scrap Tire Outreach College Intern, you will gain knowledge and experience of DMWM programs that might lead to future recruitment after your graduation. You will&nbsp;support&nbsp;DMWM program activities that may not otherwise be completed due to the nature of the activities, staff workload, and&nbsp;other circumstances.&nbsp;You will also have the opportunity to provide education and outreach to businesses generating scrap tires for the proper management to reduce theft and open dumping. You’ll identify businesses for assigned areas and perform site visits to share resources and information with business reps.</li><li>You will support the division’s duties and receive training in aspects of in-office&nbsp;and in-the-field activities involved in the solid waste, and construction and demolition debris programs. You are going to assist division staff with the review of explosive gas plans and other landfill reports and prepare reports and other technical documents.</li></ul>
