Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent) BS, MS or PhD program
  • You have worked on the development of complex hardware products in aerospace, automotive or other similar industrial applications. Prior experience through internships or with student design teams (ex: FSAE) is a plus.
  • You have hands-on experience building prototypes, setting up and running tests. Preference will be given for experience with EVs, batteries, thermal and fluid systems, power electronics or other high-voltage applications.
  • You have applied knowledge of thermal engineering analysis and simulation tools for developing system models in 1D (Matlab/Simulink, GT-suite, Amesim, etc..) and 3D (Star CCM+, Ansys, COMSOL, etc..).
  • You have strong documentation skills and can write detailed test and analysis technical reports.
  • Embrace learning, be curious, organized & methodical and pay attention to detail
  • Required Skills/Experience:
  • Programming experience for system modeling and data processing, preferably with Matlab/Simulink or Python
  • Experience working within large assembly environments strongly preferred
  • You have a safety-oriented mindset and have worked around hazardous equipment requiring advanced safety training. Experience and training with high-voltage (HV) a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation practices for thermally-focussed testing such as the application of thermocouples, heat flux sensors and pressure transducers.
  • You are a highly motivated, self starting individual with a broad set of skills and never afraid of facing complex technical challenges
  • You are a solution oriented individual with a strong analytical mindset
  • You have strong communication skills and can easily tailor your communications to suit the audience
  • You can adapt quickly or propose changes needed to achieve early results in a timely fashion
  • You embrace challenges and take commitments and deliver results within reasonable expectations
  • You are a positive team player
  • Eligibility Requirements For US:
  • Must be able to work on-site in Mountain View, CA
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US
  • Must live in the US at both the time of application AND at the time the internship begins
  • Must be either a rising sophomore, junior, or senior in college
  • Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, transcripts are required
  • Must be an enrolled student at both the time of application AND at the time the internship begins
  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week for 10 weeks (full-time for 3 months)

Responsibilities

  • As part of the ESPS organization, and deployed in the Thermal and Venting group, you will act as a Thermal Engineering Intern for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market
  • Work in a multidisciplinary group to drive design electromechanical assemblies of high voltage components
  • Perform analysis ranging from hand calculations and 1D models up to 3D multiphysics CFD on battery pack thermal components, power electronics and avionic systems
  • Post process and report analysis results to support design decisions and optimize the thermals management system for performance and weight
  • Help design, build and perform experiments of real aircraft systems to calibrate and validate simulations
  • Support prototype builds and technology maturation testing to ensure thermal systems meet functional requirements.
  • You will be responsible for providing analytical support for preliminary & detailed design, through development, validation, certification and manufacturing & operational service

Mission & Purpose

Wisk is an Advanced Air Mobility company developing the first autonomous, electric vertical takeoff and landing air taxi in the U.S. In 2010, our team set out to explore the possibilities of electric, vertical takeoff and landing flight. Since then, we have developed multiple generations of aircraft and conducted more than 1600+ test flights. In 2023, Wisk became a fully-owned subsidiary of Boeing. While we operate separately, this relationship allows us to tap into Boeing’s development, testing, and certification expertise, and more. Headquartered in Mountain View, CA with locations around the world, our vision of delivering safe, everyday flight for everyone is closer than ever to becoming reality.
