Requirements

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Urban Planning, Transportation, Geography, Public Policy, or related field with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.
  • Candidates must have completed three years of study in their program.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated interest in multi-modal transportation planning and analysis, including analyzing and recommending solutions for urban transportation issues.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research, and data collection.
  • Analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply statistical techniques in practical situations.
  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain planning concepts clearly to clients and the public.
  • Presentation skills to synthesize data and research into compelling reports and graphics.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment, including an ability to prioritize and meet task deadlines.
  • Strong command of the written and spoken English language.
  • Fast learner who is open to learning new concepts, specializations, and software programs.
  • Knowledge of using GIS for spatial analysis.
  • Knowledge in developing and presenting illustrative reports and graphics utilizing Adobe CS or other graphics software packages.

Responsibilities

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, roadway network, crash records, and asset inventories.
  • Works with the planning team to conduct equitable public outreach, preparing materials and presentations.
  • Analyzes data and prepares detailed maps for use on thematic maps and in reports.
  • Conducts concept-level evaluation of transit/transportation improvement options.
  • Documents and presents findings on transit/transportation planning projects.
  • Researches current transportation-related topics at local, State, and Federal levels.
  • Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.
  • This position will involve planning and project development activities for transportation projects under the supervision of more senior staff.
