Requirements

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
  • Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship OR co-op
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Data Science/Analytics or Computer Science/Programming
  • Junior standing with graduation in Summer 2025
  • Some coursework in Life Sciences or familiarity with drug development and/or clinical trial processes
  • Experience with database development and/or maintenance
  • Ability to program in R or Python
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Spotfire preferred)
  • Ability to pull and summarize data from data sources
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management, decision-making and organizational skills
  • Ability to apply research findings, capture information, interpret and analyze results, develop and implement a logical and strategic plan of action
  • Ability to make supportable recommendations to help achieve department goals
  • Strong project management skills, priority setting, timely delivery of results, and multi-tasking
  • Ability to think critically, actively anticipate problems and propose solutions and to work effectively/collaboratively across teams, levels of management, across partnerships, and enable cross-functional collaborations
  • Ability to work independently and with ambiguity
  • Strong computer skills; strong technical use of Microsoft Suite

Responsibilities

  • Support the Operational Design Analysts in their work to bring data to teams to help inform program strategy and operational design of clinical trials
  • Use of R programming to wrangle data (structured and unstructured), by transformations, normalization, and data mapping to ensure the data is consumable for a variety of downstream purposes such as applications, visualizations, and analytics
  • Acquire data from existing data locations, external sources, and new data sources as needed to support analytics and reporting
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners to translate enhancement requests for a Spotfire report into design requirements
  • Leverage tools and techniques to visualize data in easy-to-understand formats, such as diagrams and graphs
  • Help establish an automated business process for Operational Design Analysts to generate data visualizations for various projects
  • Conduct user-acceptance testing for automated solutions
  • Participate in the Operational Design Team meetings to gain exposure to projects and processes related to study design
  • Communicate with stakeholders to understand data content and business requirements
  • Prepare and disseminate information via effective presentations and documentation
