Responsibilities

  • New science and technologies are emerging to develop, manufacture, and deliver treatments to tackle disease. Over the past 6 years, the D&I ERP Department has developed over 140 research reports that explore what these emerging science and technologies mean to USP’s stakeholders, how we develop and deliver our standards, and how are standards are used. We present the research to staff and share the reports on an internal SharePoint site accessed nearly 6,000 times by over 200 USP staff.
  • The topics we research are 5 to 10 years upstream or outside of current standards work, and they cross-cut USP departments and divisions. Given their upstream and cross-cutting nature, our research's impact is often not fully known. We often rely on direct inquiries, word-of-mouth, and conjecture to understand how our research is being used over time.
  • Your work to build a project impact tracking system will help to establish and communicate a fuller picture of the value of our research, by bringing real-time insights and greater transparency to the paths that our research take through USP. Working with D&I ERP and others, you will pull data from various sources where it is currently housed, organize it it in meaningful ways, present it with appealing/engaging visuals and update it. Your work will bring a lens to aspects such as (and not limited to):
  • Research Outcome Communications:
  • What were the initial hypotheses and/or recommendations for USP? What timeline to impact?
  • To which departments was the research presented?
  • Were recommendations taken up within USP – why or why not?
  • What is the current status?
  • What histories and new/related directions are emerging or being explored?
  • Knowledge Sharing and Development:
  • Who is accessing the research reports?
  • How frequently are they being accessed?
  • What is “triggering” their access – email notifications, Trending articles, external events, new USP initiatives, and other factors?
  • New Insights and Directions:
  • What are the hot topics right now?
  • What are the connected themes and/or megatrends emerging?
  • What are the emerging trends in access, by individuals, departments, topics, etc.?
  • Are colleagues searching for topics that we have not explored yet?
  • Are there overarching or key themes that D&I ERP should research further?

Mission & Purpose

US Pharmacopeia (USP) is an independent, scientific nonprofit organization that has focused on building trust in the supply of safe, quality medicines since 1820. We are a public health organization that uses rigorous science and public quality standards setting to protect patient safety and improve global health. We are committed to building public trust and confidence in drug therapies to enable people to live longer and healthier, and also work to building trust in dietary supplements and food ingredients. Currently, we are working to strengthen the global supply chain so that the medicines people rely on are available when needed and work as expected. Our Volunteers USP standards are in a continuous process of review and revision based upon new evidence, emerging public health concerns, and public requests for revision. Input from our volunteers, through our Council of Experts and Expert Committees and Panels, is crucial for maintaining our standards and preserving public trust. Our Governing Bodies The USP Convention helps guide our areas of impact – nearly 500 Member Organizations from around the world contribute valuable perspectives, experiences, and expertise from across healthcare and science. In addition to collaborating on critical healthcare and science matters, every five years, Convention Members adopt USP Resolutions and elect USP’s Board of Trustees and the Council of Experts who lead USP’s standards-setting Expert Committees.
