Responsibilities

  • Develop goals and objectives for the department based on interpretation of institutional policy and goals
  • Establish and articulate a philosophy of nursing consistent with the educational, research, and patient care missions of the University's Medical Center
  • Review, establish, and revise policies, procedures, and standards related to all aspects of nursing practice
  • Interpret policies and objectives to nursing staff, patient, and community groups

  • Negotiate service levels and service changes with the Support Service Departments
  • Review variance to budget and prior period actual data and implement changes for improvement that focus on financial performance, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Create and exceed service standards utilizing key service dimension and from knowledge of patient/customer expectations and best practice
  • Participate in establishing service standards for the department
  • Ensure that the service standards established for the department are met or exceeded
