Requirements

  • Minimum 1 - 2 years’ experience in at least one of the following areas: career education, higher education, student affairs, alumni relations, event management, volunteer management, group facilitation, is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead volunteers; demonstrated through leadership, volunteer management, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience navigating CRMs, digital platforms and software such as Salesforce, PeopleGrove, social media, HTML, PHP/Drupal, Microsoft Teams, or similar.
  • Experience in the creation of surveys, polls, questionnaires; knowledgeable in data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in online facilitation and virtual event delivery.
  • Experience with program design and/or curriculum development.
  • Committed to EDI principles and practices.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and management skills.

  • Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3-4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan and implement strategies that supports the unit’s engagement goals using the unit’s digital and web-based platforms to increase awareness of the volunteer opportunities that contribute meaningfully to alumni and student communities.
  • Recruit alumni volunteer in career-related initiatives to support alumni and students through experiential opportunities such as occupation-specific career exploration, expert thought-leadership panels, industry insights or other customized opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support recent alumni transitions into life after university through career-related alumni activities and initiatives.
  • Serve as an active and collaborative partner to all Faculty-based and Student Services teams in programmatic aspects of mentoring and career initiatives, to ensure strategic, effective and collaborative practices.
  • Develop and implement a communications plan, including content curation, to draw participants to and remain engaged within the signature alumni-student mentoring and networking platform McGillConnect, a PeopleGrove product, to foster connections between participants and with McGill.
  • Collaborate on advancing McGill’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan by recruiting alumni mentors from McGill’s recognized equity groups, as well as mentors and alumni who have graduate studies experience, to make connections with current students and recent graduates from these same groups.
  • Act as the primary contact on programming design and implementation with platform vendors, as necessary.
  • Develop and implement a communications plan for the corporate engagement program, McGill@, to foster the creation of occupational/workplace alumni networks to increase available channels for alumni career development and student workplace exploration opportunities, such as job shadowing.
  • Develop and run the Alumni Career Coaching program; develop the communications plan to recruit alumni coaches and participants to the program; develop career design content, such as articles, videos and webinars, provided by the alumni coaches and disseminate to the appropriate alumni and/or student audiences.
  • Coordinate the McGill Alumni Virtual Book Club as a means to cultivate and engage alumni through lifelong learning; collaborate with the platform vendor, PBC Guru, on book choices, including recommended McGill authors, and occasionally organize real-time webinars or other talks between alumni book club participants and McGill authors.
  • Act as the unit resource on alumni branch and constituent group social media account management and McGill Alumni website content creation and maintenance.
  • Track alumni participation in platform-based initiatives, and design and implement the appropriate means of recognition and stewardship for the involvement of alumni volunteers.
  • Leverage data analysis performed by the unit’s Engagement Analytics team to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives to continuously improve upon engagement efforts and respond to evolving needs of program participants.
  • Participate in activities related to the revenue-generating affinity partnerships managed on behalf of the McGill Alumni Association, including partnership relations and promotional initiatives.
  • Perform related duties as required.
