What are the primary responsibilities of a City Driver?
City Drivers are responsible for picking up and delivering freight between Service Centers and customers, operating tractor-trailer combinations, performing safety inspections, handling freight with motorized equipment, securing freight, and communicating with customers and dispatch.
What type of license do I need to apply for the City Driver position?
You must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements.
Is there a specific amount of driving experience required for this job?
Yes, you must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
Are there any physical requirements for the City Driver position?
Yes, candidates must be able to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week and must be able to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck.
What is the starting pay for the City Driver role?
The starting rate of pay for this position is $28.95 per hour.
What are the working conditions I should expect?
City Drivers will drive throughout shifts on various types of roads and in all kinds of weather, with exposure to noise, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials under DOT regulations.
Is there a requirement to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement after being hired?
Yes, the Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance, and you will not be allowed to drive a commercial motor vehicle without it.
