Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Chemistry or related subject
  • Preferably a post-graduate qualification (Master's or PhD) in land contamination, hydrogeology, geochemistry or similar
  • Rounded knowledge of engineering geology, supplemented with a good understanding of sustainable development principles
  • An ability to communicate complex ideas and solutions effectively, work well within a team and possess a problem solving mindset
  • The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive, seeking to improve existing ways of working
  • Enthusiasm for working out-of-doors from time to time
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and demonstrate an aptitude for learning new software that utilises 3D models and digital automation
  • A good understanding of GIS, for both interrogating and presenting data would be beneficial
  • Some experience with coding languages, modelling software, or digital design would be beneficial

Responsibilities

  • You will help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you will have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we will give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills and experience.
  • Day-to-day the role will involve: review of reports and data for geoenvironmental desk studies; design of ground investigations and resulting data management; contamination risk assessments and modelling to inform remediation design; use of GIS and other digital tools; attendance on site during investigation or remediation; and writing of reports and communication with clients and regulators.
  • We take professional development very seriously and support everyone on their career path, with frequent internal seminars and training, and also access to national and international training opportunities, supporting progress to chartered status. Across Arup we work together to share technical resource to meet project demand with opportunities to work on projects across the UK and overseas.
  • This position provides the opportunity to develop a strong foundation as a geoenvironmental specialist, covering all aspects of contaminated land and water and contamination in the subsurface. You will have the opportunity to shape your future, whether you aspire to be a generalist or specialist in a particular field.
