Requirements

  • You’ll have graduated within the last three years (or be on track to graduate next summer). You will hold a Masters or Doctoral level degree in a Water Management, Environmental Engineering, Ecology or a related field, with a strong focus on data management and analytics.
  • Ideally, you’ll be based near one of our central belt locations, e.g. Edinburgh, Stepps, or Dundee, with the ability to occasionally travel throughout the country.
  • And that means you’ll need a full UK-issued (DVLA) driving license – or be on track to pass your test.
  • In terms of essential requirements? That’s it.

Responsibilities

  • Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) is a co-ordinated and sustainable approach to development of water resources. For Scottish Water this means making sure that we have a resilient water supply, while protecting and enhancing the natural water environment.
  • Your home base will be our Water Resource Planning & Supply Optioneering Team, but you’ll have the option to complete placements in related teams across the business. This is a rare opportunity to learn all aspects of water resources working from catchment to the customers tap.
  • As an IWRM Specialist you’ll be committed to working with the natural seasonal rhythms of water, on a river basin scale. You’ll develop an understanding of meteorology, catchments, hydrology, and freshwater ecology, and the role of water resource infrastructure and operational planning in delivering drought resilient water supplies to Scotland’s communities. You’ll also support the planning of infrastructure and policy change, finding the best solutions for both people and the environment so that Scotland continues to flourish.
  • There will be opportunities to develop understanding of the critical role water resources have in underpinning the socioeconomic development of communities across Scotland, with water demand planning for both households and businesses and water use of all sectors in Scotland.

Proudly delivering Scotland's water and waste water services to 2.5 million homes and 153,000 businesses.
