Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Minimum 1 year experience as an LPN in an acute medical or surgical unit within the last 2 years.
  • New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an acute geriatric unit may be considered, please specify in application if you've completed your final preceptorship with AGU.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to, walking, bending, lifting and standing for extended periods of the shift.
  • Experience with managing patients with variable cognitive impairments.
  • Current IV (starting), Level 1 CVC, PICC, Narcan and IV Direct (pushing) experience.
  • Immunization certification.
  • Current N95 Fit Test.
  • It’s Your Move certification.
  • Skin and wound care experience including VAC dressings.
  • Experience with electronic charting SCM.
  • Participation in a unit or site-based quality improvement or safety council or other unit workflow review committee.

Responsibilities

  • As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures.
  • You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
  • The LPN participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • You will demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with the interdisciplinary team.
  • You will use decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills using sound nursing judgment.
  • You will engage in patient advocacy and patient teaching skills.
  • You will apply principles of patient and family centred care.
  • You will utilize time management and prioritization skills.
  • You will employ interpersonal conflict resolution skills and foster a positive environment with respect for each other, patients and families.
