Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a Construction or Project Manager, General Contractor and/or in a professional capacity with demonstrated leadership, administrative, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience in related building disciplines and/or a health care environment would be a definite asset.
  • Complete High School education, Manitoba standards.
  • Graduate from a recognized technical institute with a major in Civil Engineering or Construction Technology or alternatively a current Certificate of Qualification with the Province of Manitoba.
  • Completion of a project or construction management courses or certification in project management.
  • Must have completed AutoCAD training with the ability to draw and sketch up project scopes information including architectural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other building, millwork and furniture elements.
  • Must be able to read drawings, proof shop drawings and modify existing as-built drawings.
  • Must be up-to-date with new technology, materials, equipment and procedures necessary for effective, accurate and efficient project estimating.
  • Manitoba certification as an Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or a Certificate of Qualification in an applicable building trade.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to generate drawings, read, interpret and understand the spatial relationships shown on construction and shop drawings and to comprehend information included in building, specifications and manufacturers' literature is required.
  • A thorough understanding of building codes is essential.
  • Must be able to organize and conduct meetings and have excellent oral and written skills to communicate the impact of maintenance projects to diverse medical, administrative and related maintenance management staff.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Must have good manual dexterity.
  • Position could require some bending, stretching, standing and walking for sustained periods.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general direction of the Architectural & Project Supervisor the incumbent will be responsible for providing continuity and quality control of all Maintenance delivered projects from documenting the project scope with drawings and project scope, allocating of manpower and supplies resources from the appropriate trades sections, infection risk assessment and protection measures, through to the installation and finalization of deficiencies and subsequent utilization by the departmental user.
  • This would involve Maintenance project work performed around staff and patients, as well as Maintenance project work where total ward refurbishment and evacuation takes place.
  • Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and providing liaison among all of the following: users, Maintenance staff, Maintenance PM Coordinators, contractors, consultants, Infection Prevention & Control practitioners, Facility Management, Maintenance management personnel and others throughout the planning, installation and commissioning phases of Maintenance projects, while promoting timely completion of same.
  • The incumbent will arrange the commissioning process for the Architectural shop including drawing and specification review, coordinating and performing inspections, documenting issues and following up for remedy.
  • As requested, coordinates shop staff and contractors to assist with commissioning and ongoing shop coordination.
