Responsibilities

  • Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time, fixed term position as a Research Assistant working on Indoor Environmental Quality with the Exposure Science Research Group in in School of Natural Science at the University of Galway, Ireland.
  • This position is funded by the European Union under the InterReg Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme and is available immediately to contract end date of December 2027.
  • RIAQ (Retrofitting for Improved Air Quality: promoting sustainable and healthy homes) is a new research project commencing in 2025. RIAQ aims to tackle the critical challenge of enhancing building energy efficiency through energy retrofitting in the Northern Periphery and Arctic region, while simultaneously improving indoor air quality (IAQ), hygrothermal performance, and occupant well-being. Aligned with EU climate goals, RIAQ will develop and disseminate practical tools, guidelines, and best practices for sustainable retrofitting. The project will involve engaging businesses, policymakers, and occupants of residential buildings to ensure widespread adoption and compliance with relevant legislation. RIAQ is a collaborative project with partners in Finland (University of Oulu & the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare), Sweden (Umeå University), Iceland (University of Iceland) and Ireland (University of Galway). A multi-disciplinary research team at the University of Galway will work on this project, composed of staff members from the Colleges of Science and Engineering, Medicine, Nursing and Health Science, and Business, Public Policy and Law.
  • Salary: Research Assistant salary scale €31,962 - €41,943 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
