  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 10+ years in a professional human resources role
  • 5+ years of relevant employee relations experience
  • 2+ years in a leadership role managing a team of HR professionals
  • Experience in a 5,000+ people organization with a similar Employee Relations team function
  • Multi-state experience
  • Expert level knowledge of employee relations best practices and federal employment laws (Title VII, FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, etc.) with the ability to quickly learn multiple state employment laws
  • Expert level experience conducting internal investigations with excellent understanding of best practices and proven ability to teach others
  • Demonstrated ability to guide leaders through difficult conversations and persuade, with or without influence
  • Experience handling or advising on employee leaves and conducting the reasonable accommodation process
  • Ability to analyze data or metrics and make recommendations that are well supported by the numbers
  • Experience developing training for managers
  • Experience presenting training to employees and leaders
  • Experience developing best practice policies and procedures
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in a union environment preferred
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred
  • Experience with Dovetail preferred

Responsibilities

  • Advocates for and supports the Company’s Employee Relations philosophy, ensuring the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
  • Leads a talented team of ER and Leave and Accommodations professionals by serving as a mentor and teacher, to ensure development of capabilities and adherence to best practices
  • Designs and drives consistent corrective action processes that foster fairness, communication, and identifies opportunities for an employee's performance improvement
  • Provides expertise regarding leave and accommodation best practices, as well as creates and implements best practices to support the leave and accommodation interactive processes
  • Serves as the escalation point for highly complex corrective actions, investigations, and leave and accommodation issues
  • Ensures Employee Relations Partners conduct fair and consistent internal investigations, as well as serves as a coach and advisor to difficult investigations
  • Conducts highly complex and sensitive internal investigations, when needed
  • Creates and supports the Employee Relations case management system including analysis of data to identify trends and opportunities to develop our leaders
  • Supports, as well as conducts, training efforts driven by the Employee Relations team that are focused on helping our leaders through the performance management process, as well as compliance trainings such has harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
  • Works closely with Legal to continually update and improve company policies and procedures
  • Partners with our Safety and Risk teams, as well as other non-HR teams, to improve processes that touch Employee Relations
  • Collaborates with other HR leaders to improve ER processes and support other efforts that may impact ER
