Requirements

  • You have studied electrical engineering or a closely related field. You hold either a PhD degree with focus on electromagnetic actuators/motors, or M.Sc. (or equivalent) degree complemented by significant industrial R&D experience. You have strong track record of scientific publications and/or patents.
  • You have a deep analytical understanding of electromagnetic actuators/motors, and you are proficient in their advanced simulation using tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, or similar.
  • You are experienced in designing, commissioning, and running dedicated test setups to validate your theoretical work. Experience in LabView environment would be considered a strong plus.
  • Practical skills in power electronics, control methods for electric drives, DSP/FPGA programming, or hardware prototype manufacturing would be considered a plus.
  • Experience in project management and/or public-funded projects will be considered a plus.
  • First leadership experience will be considered a plus.
  • You are fluent in English (written and spoken); German language skills are beneficial but not a prerequisite.

Responsibilities

  • Together with our industrial research team, you develop novel, future-proof electromagnetic actuation systems for a wide and versatile range of ABB products.
  • You propose, develop, and apply advanced mathematical modeling and simulation methods as well as experimental analysis for the research and development of electromagnetic actuators.
  • You validate technology demonstrators together with a prototyping team by (co-)designing test rigs, selecting sensors and data acquisition systems, defining and/or running the tests and analyzing the measurement results.
  • You work in R&D projects with cross-functional teams in close cooperation with ABB divisions, customers, and universities. You will also have the opportunity to lead such projects.
  • You identify new trends by observation of markets and university research; and you identify application areas of new technologies within ABB products.
  • You come up with innovative solutions and secure intellectual property.
  • You present research results globally across the ABB group and at scientific conferences or via journals.
