What is the role of a Surveyor II?
The Surveyor II is an intermediate-level position responsible for examining and reporting on vessels and other marine structures to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements for safety, loadline, tonnage, cargo gear, and pollution prevention.
What are the educational requirements for the Surveyor II position?
Candidates must have qualifications from a tertiary institution in a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two-year program), or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution with relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer.
How much experience is required for this role?
A minimum of three years of experience as a Surveyor I, or five years of experience in an engineering or survey capacity within the marine industry or other applicable industries is required.
What knowledge is necessary for a Surveyor II?
The role requires knowledge of ABS Rules, statutory regulations, shipbuilding practices, engineering systems and machinery, computer programs related to job responsibilities, and the ability to read engineering plans.
Will I be in contact with clients in this position?
Yes, the Surveyor II engages in contact with clients to resolve problems related to their area of expertise.
What physical requirements must be met for the Surveyor II position?
The role requires sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform duties, including climbing vertical ladders, working at heights, maneuvering in tight spaces, and lifting at least 25 lbs. (11.34 kgs).

The Surveyor II will report to the Principal, Senior, or Surveyor-in-Charge of the assigned port.
