What is the placement duration for this volunteer position?
The placement will run for approximately 3 months, starting from 3 March 2025.
What are the expected working hours for the placement volunteer?
The normal placement hours will be Tuesdays to Thursdays, from 9am to 5pm.
Where will the volunteer work be conducted?
The placement will be hybrid, involving work from the volunteer's home and at the British Red Cross office in Sheffield (S9 2RX).
What kind of tasks will I be expected to perform as a placement volunteer?
Typical tasks include providing one-to-one support in areas such as asylum support and healthcare, conducting needs assessments during triage appointments, maintaining client databases, and referring individuals to other support services.
Are there any specific skills required to apply for this position?
Yes, applicants should have strong communication skills, be empathetic towards the needs of refugees and migrants, be emotionally resilient, and ideally have experience in face-to-face client work or casework.
Is there any training provided for placement volunteers?
Yes, successful candidates will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during their placement.
Will I be reimbursed for expenses incurred while volunteering?
Yes, all British Red Cross volunteers are entitled to reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.
How do I know if I qualify for the bursary scheme?

Is it necessary to undergo a background check for this role?
