Responsibilities

  • Performance of specialist scientific and technical duties, as required, to the standard expected of a HCPC Registered BMS.
  • To use and maintain the integrity of the laboratory computer systems and their databases for data entry of requests, recording and reporting all results, compiling reports and other documents, and for communication (email).
  • Ensure that all analyses are performed to the highest standard using approved methods and Quality Control system.
  • Carry out maintenance of analytical equipment according laboratory and supplier protocol, including recording of procedures carried out.
  • Use specialist knowledge to perform analytical techniques in each section of the department, recording and interpreting complex array of Quality Control data according to departmental policy; to use specialist knowledge to interpret this array of data in order to identify changes in system performance and take corrective action when appropriate.
  • To combine specialist knowledge and the quality control data to decide when abnormal results need to be reviewed and to authorise and release results and to report by telephone when required by designated action limits.
