Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong and proactive safety culture across all HMS Excellent departments and lodger units.
  • Manage, maintain, and regularly update the Establishment’s HSEP documentation including:
  • Provide competent H&S advice to the Commanding Officer and act as their principal assurance mechanism for safety, health and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure risks are identified, assessed, and where necessary escalated to the HoE to maintain awareness and oversight of key safety risks.
  • Coordinate and facilitate safety‑related committees and working groups, including Building Manager forums and establishment HSEP meetings.
  • Deliver targeted training, guidance and coaching to Building Managers, Safety Representatives, and local supervisors to ensure they understand their responsibilities.
  • Act as the point of contact for internal and external audits and inspections, ensuring documentation and evidence are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Monitor, review and analyse accident/incident reports, ensure entries are raised on appropriate reporting systems and advise on corrective actions.
  • Provide timely support to units across Whale Island and Horsea Island, visiting work areas, engaging with staff and identifying emerging risks.
  • Maintain close liaison with DIO, Facilities Management, Security, Environmental Protection and other specialist advisors.
  • Undertake any additional duties commensurate with grade as delegated by Senior Management.
