What are the qualifications required for the Senior Staff Nurse position on Esther Ward?
Applicants should either be an existing Band 6 nurse or have significant experience as a Band 5 nurse in an oncology/surgical oncology environment.
What types of patients will I be caring for on Esther Ward?
You will care for a diverse range of patients, including those who have undergone ENT/Head and Neck procedures, thoracic procedures, and patients supported after UAE/interventional radiology cases, as well as sickle cell patients and other oncology and haematology outliers.
What are the primary responsibilities of a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse on this ward?
The primary responsibilities include driving quality on the ward, leading and supporting junior colleagues, managing surgical drains, complex wounds, and providing pre and post-operative care, as well as managing complex medication administration.
Is there a specific area of expertise required for this position?
Yes, the ideal candidate should have a good knowledge and competence in altered airway management, pre and post-operative care, complex wound management, venepuncture/cannulation, and blood transfusions.
Will I have opportunities for further training and development?
Yes, there will be opportunities to undertake further study, and you can take advantage of in-house training as well as external training programs.
Are there any specific procedures that this ward does not handle?
Yes, we do not currently deliver chemotherapy on the ward, so this is not a learning opportunity we can offer.
